In his debut exhibition, Rob Goldie chronicles a collection of found thongs gathered by artist Chris Drummond over six years across the Victorian coastline. En masse, these 222 objects take on distinct personalities and question provenance, ownership and human impact.

Launching Friday December 6 at Skylight Gallery, SUN Melbourne.

Artist and Inverloch resident Chris Drummond began collecting the objects to highlight the environmental impact to his hometown. The 222-piece collection is currently made up of 5 Crocs, 1 ladies sandal, 29 pairs, 113 lefts and 106 rights, 79 mens, 36 womens, 43 kids thongs and 3 that are simply too hard to tell.

“I immediately related to what the thongs represented, how symbolic they are of the way we as Australians gravitate to the coast and the devastating impact that’s having. 85% of Australia’s population live within 50km of the coastline. We are all responsible for its care and wellbeing.”

All profits from print sales will be donated to Take 3 For The Sea, an organisation that inspires participation in simple actions that reduce the impacts of plastic pollution and waste in the ocean and broader environment.
