The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro features high quality, motorized IR ND filters that let you quickly reduce the amount of light entering the camera. Designed to match the colorimetry and color science of the camera, the 2, 4 and 6 stop filters provide you with additional latitude even under harsh lighting. The IR filters have been designed to filter both optical and IR wavelengths evenly, eliminating IR contamination of the images. Activation buttons are located on the rear of the camera body, placed within easy reach of your thumb from the multi function hand grip. User selectable filter settings can even be displayed as either an ND number, stop reduction or fraction on the LCD.
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera’s 13 stops of dynamic range give them the ability to preserve more detail in the lightest and darkest areas of an image than simple video cameras can. You also get more colors than the standard DCI-P3 colorspace used for feature films. The DaVinci Resolve Studio is included with the camera, giving you full exposure adjustment and recovery controls when color grading.
The Pocket Cinema Cameras is optimized to minimize grain or noise in images, with dual gain ISO up to 25,600, while maintaining the full dynamic range of the sensor. The native ISO of 400 is ideal for scenes with on-set lighting. The secondary high base ISO of 3200 is perfect when shooting in dimly lit environments. It's easy to capture great images when you don’t have time to set up lights thanks to the gain ability to set automatically as you adjust the ISO setting.
Depending on the model, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera can shoot in all standard resolutions and frame rates from HD up to DCI 4K and even 6K. The 6K models will shoot up to 50 fps at 6144 x 3456 16:9 or 60 fps at 6144 x 2560 2.4:1 and 60 fps at 5744 x 3024 17:9. For higher frame rates you can window the sensor and shoot up to 120 fps at 2.8K 2868 x 1512 17:9. You can even work in true anamorphic 6:5 using anamorphic lenses in 3.7K 60 fps at 3728 x 3104. On the 4K model you can shoot up to 60 fps 4K DCI at 4096 x 2160 and 60 fps in Ultra HD at 3840 x 2160. You can even shoot 120 fps in 1080HD.
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera records using standard open file formats to save time on transcoding media. Files are compatible with all post production software so you can work with the software of your choice, or use the included DaVinci Resolve Studio. Recording works in industry standard 10-bit Apple ProRes files in all formats up to 4K or 12-bit Blackmagic RAW in all formats up to 6K. Blackmagic RAW is the fastest growing RAW format. Developers can download and use the free Blackmagic RAW SDK to add support into their applications. Media files work on all operating systems and you can format media cards and disks in HFS+ for Mac and ExFAT for Windows.
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera features built in CFast and SD UHS-II card recorders, and a USB-C expansion port for recording direct to an external media disk. You can use regular SD cards for HD or higher performance UHS-II and CFast cards for native 4K or 6K when using Blackmagic RAW. The ProRes and Blackmagic RAW files work with all video software. You can even mount the media cards on your computer and edit directly from them using the included DaVinci Resolve Studio software.
The large LCD touchscreen displays critical information on the heads up display, or HUD, as well as access to camera setup menus. The HUD lets you see and adjust settings such as the frame rate, iris, timecode, shutter angle, white balance, ISO, audio levels and more with a single tap. You can show or hide the HUD by simply swiping up or down. Adjust settings such as white balance simply by touching the WB indicator, or change the audio levels by touching the audio meters.
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera features a large, bright 5 inch touchscreen that makes it easy for you to frame shots and accurately focus without an external monitor. On screen overlays show status and record parameters, histogram, focus peaking indicators, levels, frame guides and more. You can quickly apply 3D LUTs for monitoring shots with the desired colour and look. The Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro LCD monitor is a more advanced HDR display that can be tilted up and down so it's easy to monitor your shot from any position. Plus the 6K Pro model’s HDR display features 1500 nits of brightness, ideal for use in bright sunlight.
Get full control via Bluetooth from up to 30 feet away when positioning the camera on the end of a boom, or in another hard to reach location. The Blackmagic Camera Control app can be downloaded for your iPad or alternatively you can use third party apps such as Bluetooth+ or tRigger on your iOS and Android devices. There’s even a free developer SDK with sample code available from the Blackmagic Design developer website, so you can create your own remote camera control and digital slate solutions.
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro model uses NP-F570 batteries. Prevent losing power during a shoot with the locking DC power connector. The included AC plug pack can power the camera and charge the battery simultaneously. You also get a set of international socket adapters for worldwide use. Even the USB-C expansion port can trickle charge the battery, so you can use portable battery packs, mobile phone chargers or laptops. The optional battery grip lets you add extra batteries to extend the power of the camera so providing the capacity to shoot all day.
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera can function as a studio camera for live production when used with ATEM Mini! Video and control is via the HDMI connection, which is available as soon as you plug the cameras in. The record light becomes a tally light so you can see which camera is on air. The ATEM Software Control camera page has a camera control unit (CCU) style interface for adjusting and matching your cameras. Move the CCU control vertically for iris and left to right to adjust black level.
All Pocket Cinema Camera models include a full version of DaVinci Resolve Studio, which is the same software used in Hollywood for creating high end feature films, episodic television shows, commercials and more. DaVinci Resolve features the new cut page with intelligent editing tools and innovative new features designed to help you quickly find the footage you want, edit it together and output it fast. In addition to the new cut page, you also get DaVinci’s legendary professional editing, advanced color correction, audio post and visual effects tools, all in a single software application! Now you can use the the same high end software that professional editors and colorists use.
The new ATEM Mini makes it easy to create professional multi camera productions for live streaming to YouTube and innovative business presentations using Skype! Simply connect Pocket Cinema Cameras to ATEM Mini for dramatically better quality images. Plus connect a computer for PowerPoint slides or gaming consoles. There's even a DVE that allows picture in picture effects plus lots of video effects and transitions. All ATEM Mini models have USB that works like a webcam so you can use any streaming software while the ATEM Mini Pro model adds live streaming via Ethernet and recording to USB disks. ATEM Mini even has advanced broadcast features for high end work.
