David Maurice Smith is a Canadian photojournalist based in Sydney, whose work focuses on exploring the issues facing marginalized communities.
David worked as a social worker for 10 years before transitioning to photography full time. Since then, his images have been recognized in the International Photography Awards, The American Photography Awards, The Walkley Awards, The Amnesty International Media Awards, The Anthrophographica Awards, The Head On Portrait prize and in 2013 he was named Australian Emerging Documentary Photographer of the Year.
His editorial clients include Rolling Stone, TIME, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, Le Monde, The Globe and Mail, CNN, The Discovery Channel, Monocle, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian, among many others. He also works regularly for global and national NGO's and non-profit organizations.
David has been a member of the Oculi Collective since 2012.
