ABOUT THIS WORK

Humpback Whale and her Calf / Kingdom of Tonga VavaÕu

From the series ‘Love Scars’ - Humpback whales are known for their beautiful songs that travel kilometres through the oceans. However a recent study highlights a different kind of conversation - gentle whispers between the mother and her calf. The babies share intimate grunts and little squeaks that can only be heard by their mums. According to the study they whisper to each other so they won't get overheard by somebody dangerous. The Humpback Whale is a gentle and aware creature which can be incredibly accepting of our presence in their own vulnerable environment.
