The Other Side of The SUN | Zoltan Blazer

Hi, My name is Zoltan Blazer.

I admit that sometimes my name draws people’s attention but I can assure you it is what is written on my birth certificate!

I am the Customer Relations Manager at SUNSTUDIOS. I take studio bookings and enquiries but also keep in regular contact with our customers to listen to their needs and feedback and see how we can improve our services. The role also involves reaching out to new customers and photographers and introducing them to SUNSTUDIOS.

Aside from the great environment and workmates, I think the most exciting thing here at SUNSTUDIOS is the opportunity to be around talented, creative people day to day.

It’s also a great pleasure getting to know all of the people that regularly walk through the atrium doors. I do love a good chat. So please don’t hesitate to talk to me if you see a tall guy with a check pattern shirt hanging around the SUNSTUDIOS Sydney atrium.

I’ve always loved photography and collected cameras to the point of hoarding. Special mention would go to my Canon EOS 7D… We’ve been through a lot together.

I always loved the idea of the rock ‘n’ roll photographer and idiolised likes of Mick Rock, David Bailey, Annie Leibovitz and the work they did in the music industry. After uni, I started working at a record label, Modular Recordings and was lucky enough to have an open slather to shoot our band’s gigs.

I have been friends with Ryan and Leo from Canyons for a number of years since my days at Modular. After I heard that they were putting together a live show concept with video work by Daniel Boyd I asked if I could document the show “100MillionNights”. I shot the band’s rehearsals in their studio in Tamarama as well as their gig at Dark Mofo in Hobart and Sydney Opera House as part of The Sydney Festival. Some of the shots were used as the lead imagery for The Sydney Festival show and a collection of other shots were published in Artand Magazine.

After a year-long stint working in music and event photography I wanted to broaden my horizons and I walked into SUNSTUDIOS one day with a resume and the rest is history!

I love travelling too.

A stand out memory from my recent travels would be when I stayed on a small island just north of Sicily called Lipari. One day after a swim I joined a tour boat that took me to another island formed from a constantly active volcano called Stromboli, where the movie by Roberto Rossellini was filmed. After a day exploring the island and swimming off the boat we circumnavigated the volcano at dusk and watched it erupt. Finish it off with some beer and a pizza and that’s pretty close to a perfect day for me. One of the best things about the trip was the chance to shoot a little everyday.
