A portrait of One Mile Dam

One Mile Dam is a small Indigenous 'town camp' sitting on Larrakia land just at the edge of Darwin's CBD. The land surrounding One Mile Dam is in high demand as developers construct rising apartment blocks that tower over the small community below. Many among Darwin's Indigenous community are concerned that the government will attempt to take control of the land and offer it up for development even though in 1979 a special-purpose lease in perpetuity was granted to the Aboriginal people over the crown land.

Showing on the SUNSTUDIOS Melbourne Feature Wall until Febrary 28.
