Canon launches new RF lenses, a major firmware upgrade and new APS-C CMOS sensor bodies

Canon Australia today announces another round of additions to the ground-breaking full-frame mirrorless EOS R System with the launch of a major firmware upgrade for existing EOS R and RP camera models and the highly anticipated RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM and RF 24-70MM f/2.8L IS USM lenses. Also incoming are new APS-C CMOS sensor bodies, the Canon EOS 90D and EOS M6 Mark II.

Available from the end of September, the free firmware upgrade for EOS R and RP delivers marked performance enhancements including precise eye tracking of subjects up to five times farther away than is currently possible and fast, accurate AF tracking of moving subjects.

New lenses RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM and RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM extend Canon’s mirrorless fleet to meet demand in ultra-wide angle and fast, low light capability. The composition of both lenses corrects aberration, distortion, and astigmatism enabling high-contrast images, with edge-to-edge sharpness across the entire zoom range.

The RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM is the widest Canon zoom lens ever to feature a f/2.8 aperture – allowing professionals to capture subjects in dramatic perspectives. The large f/2.8 aperture also makes this lens a strong choice for professionals who specialise in sports, press and astrophotography.

The lenses are the first wide angle L series lenses to feature Canon’s 5-stop Image Stabilizer, based on Canon’s innovative technology pioneered in the EF lens range, and Canon’s first fast aperture zoom lenses to include Nano USM technology. This development makes these lenses an essential tool for videographers using the EOS R System as focusing sounds are not recorded during shooting. The RF 24-70MM f/2.8L IS USM, like the RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, features a focus breathing suppression system which prevents the angle of view changing when focusing – producing a natural look when focusing during filming.

New canon enthusiast bodies EOS 90D and M6 Mark II

Also unveiled is the EOS M6 Mark II – a fast, versatile and lightweight mirrorless camera-perfect for travelers. Featuring a 32.5 megapixel APS-C sensor, Dual Pixel CMOS AF with 5481 AF point positions and Eye AF servo for fast accurate auto focus and tracking, 30 frames per second RAW burst mode and 14 frames per second continuous shooting mode with full auto focus tracking, removable 2.36 million dot Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) with Touch and Drag AF support. The EOS M6 Mark II also has integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity share images to your smart device quickly and easily with the Canon Camera Connect App. The M6 Mark II supports uncropped 4K 30p movies, time-lapse and Full HD 120p/100p.

Also coming at the end of the September is the Canon EOS 90D, a powerful, interchangeable lens camera providing enthusiasts with fast 10 frames per second continuous shooting with full auto focus tracking. Paired with the 3” vari-angle LCD touch screen, the EOS 90D allows creative photography from any angle. The camera also comes equipped with a 32.5 MP APS-C CMOS sensor and the ability to shoot 4K 30p and Full HD 120p movies.
